Over a decade has passed since the first Tech23, and the calibre and goodwill of the community surrounding the event continues to grow. It’s an honour for us to offer this platform as a national runway for emerging deep tech gems from across Australia.

We believe the true magic of Tech23 is found within the community and the connections and collaborations that are sparked. Recently we had a few people tell us that they found new jobs from attending Tech23 — one with a Tech23 sponsor and one with a Tech23 alumnus! Another alumni company told us that their last funding round was made so much easier after their amplification at Tech23.

Through Tech23, Graham Bell, co-founder of Startmate’s NextAero, was able to meet M8 Ventures’ entrepreneur veteran Alan Jones through a prize offered at the event. Alan helped Graham’s team develop their pitching techniques — gaining tips the space company has been using since. NextAero was then introduced to more investors and entrepreneurs within M8 Ventures’ network.

“We’ve made some pretty dramatic progress since Tech23,” Graham told us. “Your event massively increased our profile and we have been approached by a lot of investors, labs and interested professionals.”

High Earth Orbit (HEO) Robotics, who just announced their first contract with the Royal Australian Air Force for a space capability demonstration, now maintain a friendly relationship with the Westpac Reinventure team since winning a prize to have a lunch meeting with their executives.

Tech23 is about joining the dots between ideas and connections, and so we love to hear stories that were born out of the Tech23 space. As a truly national forum, Tech23 encourages the cross-fertilisation of Australia’s deep-tech ecosystem; helping people meet their next client, partner, mentor or colleague. Whether attendees later go on to work for a Tech23 alumnus or find themselves telling their own story on the Tech23 stage, you truly never know who you might meet!

We can’t wait to see who will jump into the magic mix for Tech23 2019!

The eleventh annual Tech23 will return to Sydney on Wednesday 23 October. If you would like to be involved in Tech23 2019 in any way, please feel free to reach out to hello@tech23.com.au. Watch this space — big things are growing in your backyard…

Over ten years ago – when the GFC was looming and the Federal Government’s support for innovation was ‘under review’ –Tech23 was born. At the time, Cicada was the main game in town, Sydney Angels was just forming, and the University of Sydney’s Incubate and the University of Melbourne’s MAP were still a few years away from being established.
