For ten years, Tech23 has been supporting the growth of scores of deep tech companies, many of which are excelling in the EdTech sphere. Below, catch up on just a few of their latest developments.
Dror Ben-Naim (Tech23 2012) has gone from strength to strength at adaptive learning platform Smart Sparrow. The company now has offices in San Francisco and Sydney. This year, ACT (the nonprofit developer of the ACT® test) made a $7.5 million investment in Smart Sparrow. Smart Sparrow now has close to 50 employees and is used by approximately 200 universities globally. It has raised over $20 million since its inception, with its IP arising from UNSW.
Wes Sonnenreich (Tech23 2013) heads up Practera (formerly Intersective). The company raised $3.75 million in a 2017 Series A round led by Main Sequence Ventures.

Fiona Boyd (Tech23 2015) is at the helm of EdSmart; the company being a rebranded version of the Parent Paperwork platform that Fiona presented at Tech23. EdSmart recently partnered with Civica to implement its functionalities across 900 South Australian schools. It has a UK distributor and EU supporter partner in TSI World, and was named in the 2018 ‘SMART 100’ index for innovative Australian businesses.
Mark Woodland (Tech23 2017) is growing child care administration platform Xplor, which was originally started using the money made from selling his childcare centres. Xplor now has over 50 employees and offices in Australia, Malaysia, the US and the UK, and is backed by Airtree Ventures.

Adam Brimo (Tech23 2013) is founder and CEO of OpenLearning, which was chosen by the Australian Government as the first MOOC provider to deliver online courses to all State and Federal public servants. Most recently, OpenLearning was selected by the Malaysian Ministry for Higher Education as the national MOOC provider for all public universities.
Pem Dechen (Tech23 2011) remains with Momentum Cloud Technologies. The company works with the Australian Government, the NSW Government, Telstra, and more. As the technology partner of the Burraga Foundation, Momentum recently donated over $1.5 million of expenditure in provisioning the Foundation’s technology infrastructure and software platform.
